I also clicked a few times through the community and got an error stating:

while trying to load /latest/json
Something went wrong
I’m not sure how to reproduce it, but it happened while I was trying to open this post and then navigate back.
Next to this when I try to submit this reply with a screenshot upload it says:
An error occured: Sorry, you can’t embed media items in a post.
Hi,
Love the new look of this community site! It seems really promising!
However, I’m having trouble finding the option to post a new topic. I don’t see a clear button for it. It would be great to have one clear button—perhaps in a distinct color like blue—labeled “Ask Question” to make it more intuitive.
After all, people in a community are primarily doing four things:
These actions should be clear and easily accessible from a UX/UI perspective to enhance usability and engagement.
A well-placed “Ask Question” button would encourage more participation and improve the overall user experience.
@tylerlamparter Can you take a look at this error?
Great feedback on the “Ask Question” button @nuriensing ! Do you see the “+New Topic” button now but it’s just not bright/bold enough?
My concern with renaming the button is that sometimes people won’t be asking a question - they might just want to post a tip or trick in the Success Showcase, for example.
@nuriensing you should be able to post now. By default, users go in a a 0 trust level so they have limited permissions. We should probably rethink this for our users since you have to login through IO anyways.
I’ve updated site settings to allow anyone to post regardless of trust level.
About the +New Topic button—I only noticed it when I was in the Feature Ideas section, but I initially got an “Access Denied” message. Now, I can post there, but it’s definitely not prominent enough—it doesn’t stand out.
Additionally, when I click on my profile avatar, I see a dropdown filled with numerous icons and a lot of information. I feel it’s a bit excessive. Since this is a community rather than a chat platform, I think the icons should be more practical. Instead of the chat, robot, and magnifying glass, it would be more useful to have icons like an inbox and alerts. For instance, if I create a post, answer, or comment, the first place I’d want to check is my inbox. Having an inbox with a counter (e.g., 1) for new notifications would be very handy.
It would also be great, if it’s not already available, to have vote and downvote options for answers (restricted to users with a certain trust score), along with an “Accept Answer” feature. Most of the time, I first look for the accepted answer to quickly find the best solution.
All great comments, Nuri! We’re taking a look at how to do them… stay tuned!!
@nuriensing I adjusted the New Topic button to match the blue color of our other buttons so it stands out a bit more. Does that help?
For the profile section edits, it would be tough to edit what’s there without a decent amount of work and it may not even be possible on the plan tier we’re on. I’ll research what I can do in this area, but I have a feeling modifying it would take some custom plugins which we don’t have the ability to install.
For the voting, what’s the benefit of voting up and down versus the existing like button? I think it’s fairly common now for most systems to not have a downvote option as it can be discouraging for the users that make the post. If we then didn’t allow downvoting, an upvote is about the same as a heart/like.
For accepted answers, completely agree. I just enabled this for all the discussion categories so now the topic owner or moderators can mark posts as the solution. This will then make those posts rank higher in search results. You also can filter topic lists by what is solved/unsolved. Checkout this post between @daveguderian and I as an example.
Much better! I’d suggest making it a bit more vivid to enhance visibility further.
I used #10c9ff as shown in my screenshot. This makes the button pop out a bit more.
You are right, and also maybe having a downvote option is also a bit premature for now. It could be useful later if incorrect posts become too frequent, as maintaining accurate information is important. But at this stage, the heart/like button seems to serve the purpose well.
About the accepted answer, thanks it looks great!
I have one topic open but I cannot see the option to mark an answer as solved:
@nuriensing I didn’t enable marking posts as solved for things posted under the product ideas category. We have plans to make that category sync with our Jira instance so that we can put status tags like “under-consideration”, “planned”, “released”, etc. Since that category isn’t really a question and answer, I don’t think the solve makes sense there.
We have to go from our brand guideline colors here. Does another color here stand out to you? @HeatherFoeh was thinking Vermilion as another option.
Makes sense, very sharp @tylerlamparter !
Thanks for sharing. Here some examples with colors from the guide:
I think, red is more like a warning/error color to be honest.
Yellow looks nice as well…
Sorry for always being the one giving feedback!
The website layout is only in dark mode, as far as I can see. Maybe there’s already a way to enable light mode, but I don’t know how. It would be great if that option was available!
Hey @nuriensing! We are loving the feedback, feel free to keep it coming! You can enable light mode by following these steps:
Click the profile image in the top right, then the little person icon at the bottom, and finally select preferences.
From there select interface and then you should see the very top option is a Dark Mode check box. Uncheck it and select save at the bottom and you should see your interface switch to light mode.
Let me know if you have any issues!
Ah nice, I must have overlooked that one!
Thanks @mattie.mayfield great explanation.
