General Feedback on the Community Overall

When I type something in the search bar and press Enter, this box appears first. I expected it to execute the search immediately, but instead, the search only runs after pressing Enter a second time. Is this the intended behavior?

Additionally, when I was on the search page, no relevant results were found. Instead, I received some unrelated results. I also noticed a toggle button that doesn’t work and whose purpose is unclear to me. Could you clarify what it is supposed to do?

Another point:

I’ve noticed an issue with the way filters work in the search functionality. When performing a search, all selected checkboxes (such as “I liked,” “Tagged,” etc.) are being appended to the search query string. This behavior makes the search string unnecessarily complex and less readable.

Suggested Improvement:

  • Ensure that checkbox filters remain UI-based filters rather than modifying the search query string.
  • Keep the search bar clean and dedicated only to text-based queries.
  1. Yes, having to click enter is expected. This isn’t something we can control and I see it was a change Discourse made for all of their communities so that searches weren’t made on every keystroke.
  2. The AI search toggle is essentially a different way to search through the community with new AI tools. By default, the toggle is off so that search uses more traditional search methods and so that responses are very fast (compared to slower AI responses). After you do search, AI is also searching for other results that may match your search criteria where traditional search may fall short. In your case here, there must not be any results from AI search either.
  3. This is fairly common practice to include filters in the search text itself (Slack as an example). That being said, we don’t have control over this.

On AI search, I need to check this. It doesn’t seem to be returning anything for any search right now.

I had a problem in my edge browser. When i reticked Dark mode and saved the page, i needed to do a hard refresh before its visible. Do you experience the same?

I had a post drafted to tell you that that is a bug, but then I thought “surely Nuri won’t notice”. I reported it to them last week. It doesn’t affect actually getting to dark/light mode, but every time you go to your interface preferences it shows it ticked.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Discourse was selected as the platform for the new community. One of the recommendations I gave @HeatherFoeh on our call a few months ago was to look at another community I participate in because I specifically enjoy the layout and flow and it was also using Discourse. Nice work so far!
