What is the purpose of the "Start a PM with an AI bot" tool?

I keep starting messages expecting a response or help from an AI bot, but then the messages disappear and they don't show up in the "Messages" under my profile? Where do these go? What is the intended use of them? It sounds interesting and helpful - I just wish I knew what it did.

The UI has changed to make this interaction better. When you now click on the AI bot, the left panel becomes your prior chat histories, and asking the bot a question is front and center.
